What are they and how do they work?
A chemical peel improves the complexion, correcting the appearance of blemishes and uneven pigmentation. The visible effects of sun exposure and smoking are thereby decreased.
Chemical peels are also effective for treating acne and reducing scarring.
What do the chemical peels contain?
SKIN MEDICA (Vitalize peel) contains;
Alcohol SD 40, Lactic Acid, Resorcinol, Salicylic Acid, Panthenol and Saponins.
When should you not undergo a chemical peel?
- Use of Accutane or any retinoic products within the last 4-6 months.
- Pregnant or lactating.
- Open wounds, cuts, abrasions, or Herpes outbreak.
- Plastic surgery procedure within the last 3-6 months.
- Allergy to aspirin (applies only to the Gel Peel sm).
- Allergy to any constituent of the peel (patch testing prior to facial peel is recommended).
What's involved?
Our chemical peel treatment is once every 3 weeks over a 9 week period. After a period of rest the client generally requests when they would like to commence another course of treatments.
How long does recovery take?
For a few hours immediately following treatment, your skin may look flushed and feel a bit tight.
Any side effects?
Chemical peels are extremely gentle, only affecting the skin's top layers. People with skin allergies or sensitive skin should consult a dermatologist before treatment.
How long will the peel last?
After the initial 3 chemical peel treatments over a 9 weeks period, monthly follow-up treatments are recommended to monitor and maintain the skins condition. Daily skin products should be from a medical aesthetic range.
What about before- and after-care?
The avoidence of certain chemicals contained in your normal daily skin products should be avoided, thus ensuring it is in prime condition before the chemical peel. This will be discussed in your consultation.
It is also important that sunblock is worn after your treatment to protect your skin from causing further damage. Clients must avoid sun exposure during the treatment phase, as well as for some time afterwards.
