What are they and how do they work?
Dermal fillers are substances that are injected into the skin to make it temporarily more plump, firmer and smoother, thus eliminating lines and wrinkles. It is derived from the naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid. Marion Brown Aesthetics provide the leading products in dermal fillers including a non-animal, non-bacterial and non-chemical product.
They can also be used to increase lip size by increasing their volume and definition. Dermal fillers have been found to be effective in reducing scarring.
What's involved?
Several small injections by our practitioner result in the fillers being deposited in the dermis, then massaged to ensure an even distribution.
How long does recovery take?
Some clients have found that the treated area may be tender or swollen for up to 48 hours post-treatment. However, these indications subside after just a few hours.
Any side effects?
Rarely, injection-related reactions might occur, such as itching or bruising in the treated area.
Antiviral medicines can reduce the recurrence of cold sores in people with a history of the condition.
How long will the fillers last?
This varies for each person, depending on their skin type and condition, but 4 to 6 months is typical. It is suggested that treatments are repeated every six months.
What about before- and after-care?
We advise that clients drink plenty of water - starting a few days before their treatment - to ensure that their skin is well-hydrated.
Coffee, hot drinks and alcohol should be avoided for 24 hours post-treatment, as should excessive heat to the treated area; e.g. sunbathing or sunbeds. Likewise, extreme cold can have detrimental effects in the first few days, until the fillers have become fully integrated, adjusting to the patient's regular body temperature.
